Acupuncture

Naturopathic physicians are trained in the fundamentals of oriental medicine and diagnosis. Dr. Zigo uses acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to promote healing, help with pain, for smoking cessation and for overall health.

Acupuncture (from Lat. acus, "needle" (noun), and pungere, "prick" (verb) or in Standard Mandarin, zhen jiu (lit: needle - moxibustion) is a technique of inserting and manipulating filiform needles into "acupuncture points" on the body. According to acupuncture theory, this will restore health and well-being, and is particularly good at treating pain. The definition and characterization of these points is standardized by the World Health Organization (WHO)[1].

Acupuncture is thought to have originated in China and has been practiced in China for more than 2,000 years (though some think it has been around for 4,000 years), most commonly associated with Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Different types of acupuncture (Japanese, Korean, and classical Chinese acupuncture) are practiced and taught throughout the world.

Botanical Medicine

Botanical Medicine utilizes many different plants which have powerful healing properties. Many pharmaceutical drugs have their origins in plant substances. Naturopathic physicians use plant substances for their healing effects and nutritional value. The use of botanical medicine utilizes many different herbs formulated to the individual.

Plants have an almost limitless ability to synthesize aromatic substances, most of which are phenols or their oxygen-substituted derivatives such as tannins. Most are secondary metabolites, of which at least 12,000 have been isolated, a number estimated to be less than 10% of the total. In many cases, these substances (esp. alkaloids) serve as plant defense mechanisms against predation by microorganisms, insects, and herbivores. Many of the herbs and spices used by humans to season food yield useful medicinal compounds.

Testimonials

"I believe I have met a kindred spirit in Dr. Zigo.  My visits are informative, soothing and always result in healing without all the poison medications that are out there.  Thank you for being there."

~ Paulette

"I have been a patient of Dr. Zigo’s since 2008. I originally went to her as I was under a bit of stress, needed to lose a little weight, needed to get my hormones under control and just wanted to develop a healthier more natural lifestyle. With Dr. Zigo’s guidance, I was able to accomplish that and more. I went for regular acupuncture sessions and still do when I need a tweak. Dr. Zigo is very accessible, has a very calming demeanor and is extremely easy to talk to. She’s a wealth of knowledge and I am constantly learning naturopathic remedies from her."

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing, suitable for everyone, young and old. Homeopathy focuses on you as an individual, concentrating on treating your specific physical and emotional symptoms, to give long lasting benefits.

With homeopathy, the patient is viewed as a whole person. The patient is the one to be treated not the disease. A homeopathic intake looks at a patient’s medical history as well as their overall energy, sleep habits, food preferences, and other information that describes the sick persons unique response to illness.  A remedy is selected which is suited to the unique symptom pattern of the disease process in the individual. Since no two individuals manifest their illnesses in exactly the same way even if they are given the same disease label. It is only when a substance is matched with a patient according to the Law of Similars that it becomes homeopathic.

Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling

Nutrition and lifestyle counseling looks closely at the diet and general daily coping skills.

Nutrition is a very important part of healing. Many of us are walking around with nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances. The goal of Dr. Zigo is to aid the individual in finding the specific

food intolerance and replacing with healthy and tasty foods. A careful selected balanced diet

containing  foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains provides one of the most important

means to maintaining a healthy body.

Naturopathic physicians understand that what you eat is the basis for your health. Adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. Many medical conditions can be treated more effectively with foods and nutritional supplements than they can by other means, but with fewer complications and side effects. In their practice, Dr. Zigo may use specific individual diets, fasting, and nutritional supplements to aid in obtaining health.

Pediatrics

Herbal medicines offer safe, effective alternatives that can support and strengthen the body while treating the illness. Infants and children generally respond to herbal medicine easily and positively. Their bodies are smaller and their systems are still maturing, which makes them more vulnerable to the healing effects of mild herbs.

When working with infants and children, the form in which the medicine is administered is of great importance. Many of the gentle topical preparations such as baths, rubs, poultices, creams, homeopathy, and washes can be used effectively with infants and young children who might not comply with oral dosing of medicine. Become acquainted with the healing and nourishing world of herbs - it’s a wonderful way to nurture your child and keep him or her in a state of radiant health.
