NATUROPATHIC PRINCIPLES
Nutrition and lifestyle counseling. Takes a look at the diet and general daily coping skills. Nutrition is a very important part of healing. Many of us are walking around with many nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances. My goal is to aid the individual in finding those food intolerances and replacing them with healthy and tasty foods. A careful selected balanced diet containing foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains provides one of the most important means to maintaining a healthy body. Naturopathic physicians understand that what you eat is the basis for your health. Adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. Many medical conditions can be treated more effectively with foods and nutritional supplements than they can by other means, but with fewer complications and side effects.
In my practice I may use specific individual diets, fasting, and nutritional supplements to aid in obtaining health.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF NUTRITION?
The taking in and use of food and other nourishing material by the body. Nutrition is a 3-part process. First, food or drink is consumed. Second, the body breaks down the food or drink into nutrients. Third, the nutrients travel through the bloodstream to different parts of the body where they are used as "fuel" and for many other purposes. To give the body proper nutrition, a person has to eat and drink enough of the foods that contain key nutrients.

WHAT IS A BALANCED DIET?

A balanced diet must contain carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, mineral salts and fiber. It must contain these things in the correct proportions.

Carbohydrates: these provide a source of energy.

Proteins: these provide a source of materials for growth and repair.

Fats: these provide a source of energy and contain fat soluble vitamins.

Vitamins: these are required in very small quantities to keep you healthy.

Mineral Salts: these are required for healthy teeth, bones, muscles etc..

Fibre: this is required to help your intestines function correctly; it is not digested.
